Alertify’s Noise Monitoring: How It Works & FAQs

Alertify monitors loud noise that has been going on for an extended period. Noise monitoring settings are customizable from how sensitive you want the device to be to how many notifications you’d like to receive and if you’d only like noise monitoring during certain times of the day.

To turn on noise monitoring:

(1) Navigate to Units, click on the unit you’d like to edit, then click on Settings on the top menu bar. Then, scroll down and click on Noise and enable the Noise Notifications toggle.

(2) The noise threshold and notifications are customisable and you are able to select how many follow up notifications you want to receive and how quick you want to receive them.

Guidelines for Noise Monitoring Thresholds:

The default threshold on your Alertify dashboard is set to 68 dB

For your knowledge:

> A whisper is about 30 dB

> Normal conversation is about 60 dB

> A motorcycle engine running is about 95 dB

> Noise above 70 dB over a prolonged period of time may start to damage your hearing.

Therefore, we recommend that you keep your threshold range between 68dB - 72dB as anything above this will indicate very loud noise levels and disturbances to the neighbors.

Guidelines for Noise Monitoring Settings:

> You will receive a notification on SMS and on email (if you set it this way) when noise has been detected for a prolonged period.

> You have the option to set up to 2 follow-up notifications to let you know that noise is still being detected.

> You are able to decide how long the noise needs to be above the threshold before each follow-up notification is sent, whether that be 5 minutes or 60 minutes.

Guidelines for using Custom Time Rules:

> Using a custom time rule allows you to set a different noise threshold for certain hours of the day. For example, many places have quiet hours that guests are expected to follow. This would ensure guests adhere to that rule.

> Setting a custom time rule allows you to specify the hours in which the noise threshold is adjusted and allows you to set the noise threshold lower or higher to suit your needs.

How to set a custom time rule:

(1) Navigate to Devices, click on the device you’d like to edit, then click on Settings on the top menu bar. Scroll down and click on Noise and scroll to the bottom.

(2) Under Custom Time Rules, click on the button ‘Add New’

(3) Select the hours in which you’d like the device’s threshold to be different under ‘From’ and ‘To’.

(4) Adjust the threshold.

(5) Click on ‘Save’ and your custom time rule will be set!

FAQs

Will Alertify let me know when noise is no longer being detected?

Yes. Alertify will send you an SMS and Email notification to let you know that noise levels have returned to normal.

How do follow ups work?

Follow-ups are additional notifications that are sent after the initial notification. You can choose how long you’d want to wait before receiving the first follow-up notification. You can set the first follow up as 10 minutes. For example, if you receive your first notification, and noise continues for 10 more minutes, you will then receive the next notification.
